|Playamar Apartments - Costa del Sol|
|The Costa del Sol is centred around the town of Torremolinos, the nearest airport being Malaga, about 15 minutes drive away.
The area is full of contrasts yet still within half a days drive from the beaches, the marines and the golf courses to the magnificent Sierra Nevada mountains and a whole different culture.
The many fine beaches of the Costa del Sol have made it extremely popular with sun seekers, not only Britons but also many other Europeans. Despite the many thousands of visitors each year it is still possible to find quiet beaches over the 160 kilometres of the Costa del Sol from the Costa del Almeria to Tarifa in the south. The best known resort areas, for not only the beaches and water sports, but also the bars, restaurants, shops and nightlife are Malaga, Marbella, Torremolinos, Fuengirola and Estepona.
The inland town of Granada retains the greatest example of Moorish architecture like the Alhambra Fortress which was the home of Moorish Kings. Some observers have rated the Alhambra as the most splendid building in Spain. Elsewhere in the mountains the town of Ronda is the place to go for a view of the spectacular Sierra Ronda Gorge.
Water skiing, windsurfing, diving and sailing are the traditional water activities along the Costa del Sol but the climate also makes the region a year round favourite with the golfers. The region is arguably the most popular golf region in Spain. Year round sunshine, spectacular scenery and excellent facilities have all contributed to its success even before the Ryder Cup was staged at Valderrama. Some of the best known courses are Sotogranda, San Roque and Estepona.
